Everyone wants to be famous, to go viral, like Leah Halton did with her 12 second lip sync TikTok. Did she know she would shoot to centre stage when she posted the video?
Most likely not, she has since done lots of similar lip sync videos and none have been anywhere as successful as the one she did on February 2024.
Some content creators go for humour, some for factual based videos, some for adrenaline based content.
Social media agencies started to pop up in the mid 2000’s with the settling in of the main 4:
No social media agencies know what the winning formula is to go viral, to getting a video millions of views, likes shares and comments.
There are now thousands of social media agencies in the UK, helping to get your brand known.
There are also various social media tools that allow you to post content across numerous social media platforms, even doing timed posts (9am on a Monday morning for example).
This frees people up so they do not have to continually post new content, but can outsource this.
The results are then up to the powers that be, who knows what one Tweet will do, or how your latest TikTok will be received.
Marketing in 2025 has embraced social media, from micro brands to global brands like Coca Cola.
What is the next chapter for social media?
The latest platform is TikTok, which has over 1 billion users on the Chinese owned internet platform.
Anything can happen in the future. Donald Trump is wanting the USA to own part of TikTok, which may or may not happen, with the threat of banning it in the US.
Other platforms may come onto the market, but from the looks of it, the social media bubble is not likely to burst any time soon.
We have all seen school children making videos, hoping to become the next rising star. Who knows, maybe there will be a GCSE in content creation before long!
There have sadly been many deaths as a result of trying to take a selfie in a dangerous area, or being hit by a car without paying attention to the traffic.
Social media is not just used by Generation Z, but by people of all ages, not just school children.
For businesses, social media is a fantastic marketing tool, as Mark Zuckerberg discovered as he nurtured Facebook in the early days of finding ‘what is it that we have created?’.
To get your brand in front of millions of users that can be targeted by location, gender or other variables.
The great thing about social media, is that it is free of charge, there is no cost to post videos or to publish tweets.
The other options are paying an agency to manage a campaign, or use the platforms paid options to get your adverts seen.
Is the social media bubble going to burst – unlikely.
