Choosing Someone Local

When choosing a web design expert in Stockport, it is always good to choose one that is local.

There are hundreds of web designers in Manchester nearby.  But if you select someone locally in Stockport, you avoid the need to trek into the city for a meeting.

It is only logical to work with local company rather than one that is several hours journey away.  As meetings are a great chance to chat through ideas, strategies, designs and approaches.

You can pick the company mind as to how the site can be developed over time.  Also looking at which web platform is most suitable (Fasthosts, Wix etc.).

This can be done on the phone or via e-mail.  However the designer is not 100% focused and may be chatting ideas through with other clients at the same time.

A meeting also gives you the assurance that they are all they claim on their website; they may after all be working from their bedroom or in India, using a virtual office.

Choosing someone who knows your industry is also very wise.

All have different backgrounds.  Some do specialise in designing sites in certain industries and markets.  Choosing a web designer that has designed sites similar to yours is wise and only logical.

Questions To Consider Asking

Before talking to any web designers in Stockport, these are a few points to consider asking:

  • Website Content

Have you thought about who will create the text content of your website (not the visuals or pictures)?

Most web designers in Stockport can write your website content for you, however it is best if your message comes from you.  No-one knows your business like you do, your passion and knowledge will be communicated more effectively if it comes from you.

  • Website Hosting

Many web design companies in Stockport do have servers to host their clients websites.  However is this best for you?  It is good for them, as it kind of ties you in to working with them long term, plus they can charge you a monthly hosting fee.

There are lots of website hosting companies in the UK that may be better for you and cheaper.

  • Marketing

Once your website is created, the hard work begins.  Getting visitors to it.

Short term, PPC advertising on search engines is a good option.  Long term SEO is necessary to get you found organically for your target keywords.

Not all website designers in Stockport can offer these services (referred to as digital marketing) so maybe talking to a few local digital marketing companies is necessary.

  • Be Social

Social media marketing is the latest (and possibly the greatest) form of marketing.  Posting on social media websites is free of charge, platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.

If you are creative, doing silly dances on Tik Tok could be what gets you noticed on the world stage!

Have you considered using a social media influencer, to get you known to their thousands of followers?  Many people now have a full time career as a social media influencer.

No-one minds paying a fair price for a good job, but no-one likes paying too much and just adding to another companies profit margins. In today’s world of price comparison sites, shopping around is easy and quick to find the best local supplier.

A Few Words about Stockport

It is a large town on the outskirts of Manchester in Cheshire.  It has a population of around 150,000. In the 16th century, Stockport was known for it’s hemp and rope production.

In the 19th century this switched to hat making, and at one time it was exporting around six million hats a year!

In December 1997 the last hat factory was closed and, like so many other areas of British industry, was sent overseas due to cheaper manufacturing costs.

Stockport was a very industrial city in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the Viaduct which dominates the landscape on the western side of the town, was built in 1840 to carry rail traffic from London and Birmingham onward past it towards Manchester.

The town is first mentioned in 1170 as ‘Stokeport’ meaning a settlement with a port (in old English). There was a castle built in 1173 in the Motte and Bailey style of the Normans, but it was in ruins by 1535, and the remains were demolished in 1775.

There is no mention of it in the Domesday Book of 1068. Stockport was always quite a small town/hamlet up until the Industrial Revolution.  However there has always been human settlements in the area, witnessed by the stone tools and weapons found from ancient man.

Unlike many areas of Britain, Stockport had little Roman habitation.  The Romans did have a road passing by the town, but no major settlement in the area as it was not a strategic site.
