How B&G Stepped Up to Support Local Businesses
At B&G, we believe in leading by example. In March 2020, as the world faced unprecedented challenges, we felt a strong urge to support local independent businesses.
The loss of our beloved local coffee shops was too much to bear, and after a spirited discussion around our studio table, we decided to take action against this looming threat to our community.
The result? Good Liverpool—one of the UK’s first and largest online marketplaces dedicated to local, quality goods, backed by purpose. This self-initiated project quickly gained momentum and evolved into what is now known as the Good Market.
The Good Market has continued to grow and develop, working with and supporting over 500 artisanal local producers and makers from the North West and further afield. We’ve built a thriving community of growing businesses, initiated an Academy programme to help business owners navigate challenges, and in spring 2024, we backed the largest indoor market event in the north—Good Market XL which welcomed over 4500 visitors.
Black&Ginger has not only provided creative support but also had the pleasure of collaborating with local producers—coffee roasters, gin makers, and craft breweries—to create bespoke products that are branded and sold at the Good Market.
Our journey with the Good Market is a testament to the power of community and collective effort, and are proud to have played a role in helping local businesses thrive.
We continue to work closely with our sister, retail arm and look forward to continuing the mission of rebuilding the high street in a more purposeful and sustainable way.
